Within our US Human Resources Shared Services team, you will play a key role in driving our payroll function forward by overseeing the day-to-day payroll activities for the US and Canada, ensuring all employees are paid accurately and on time, and maintaining compliance with all payroll-related regulations. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of payroll processes.

About the job:

In this role, you will be an active member of the US Human Resources team as well as part of the Alfa Laval HR Shared Services community. You will:

• Oversee and manage the daily operations of the Payroll department
• Conduct routine audits to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing for approximately 1,900 employees in the US and Canada, across multiple payroll companies and setups
• Verify and reconcile payroll data, including timekeeping records, and tax and benefit deductions
• Prepare and submit all required payroll reports and filings, including tax filings and year-end reporting
• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
• Address and resolve payroll-related inquiries and issues from employees and management
• Collaborate with HR, Benefits, and Finance departments to ensure seamless payroll integration
• Ensure accurate accounting and reporting on payroll/GL file feeds to Finance
• Lead and mentor payroll team members, providing guidance and support as needed
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance payroll efficiency and accuracy
• Stay current with changes in payroll laws and regulations to ensure ongoing compliance
• Develop and maintain process documentation, ensuring effective knowledge transfer and cross-training initiatives
• Act as the subject matter expert for ADP Workforce Now, specializing in Payroll and Time & Attendance modules
• Monitor and ensure the smooth operation of file feeds with vendors, making updates as necessary
• Utilize ADP and other software solutions to enhance efficiencies and minimize payroll processing time
• Contribute to the strategic direction of the Payroll department, improving upon its existing successes
• Utilize reporting to make analytical observations to improve processes
• Complete other project work or job duties, as assigned
• Respond to inquiries from various tax and government entities
• Ability to work effectively with external auditors

This is a hybrid position located in Houston, TX.

What you know

You have high energy, a positive attitude, and enjoy developing relationships in a matrix business environment. In addition, you have:

• Required:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in payroll processing and management.
  • Strong proficiency in/knowledge of:
    • Payroll software, preferably ADP
    • Microsoft Office Suite
    • Payroll laws and regulations (USA and Canada)
• Preferred:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field
  • CPP certification
  • Experience working in Payroll and Time & Attendance modules in ADP Workforce Now
  • Experience working with ServiceNow or other similar ticketing system preferred
