About the job

As a Materials Controller you will be responsible for managing inventory and material flow, including shipping/receiving, delivering materials to production teams, processing paperwork, loading/unloading freight, ensuring quality standards, performing cycle counts, updating system transactions, and stocking production areas.

This position is in Broken Arrow, OK.

  • Actively participates in daily pre-shift briefings and weekly safety meetings to promote a culture of safety and awareness.
  • Cross trains in multiple departments to provide flexible support and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Assists Team Lead and Team Manager with administrative and operational tasks, including coordination and reporting.
  • Performs daily duties as a material controller, ensuring accurate tracking, handling, and distribution of materials.
  • Follow instructions carefully and seek clarification when needed to maintain high standards of performance.
  • Supports onboarding and training of new employees, contributing to a knowledgeable and cohesive team.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area throughout the shift and ensures proper cleanup at shift end.
  • Safely operates company vehicles with attached trailers to transport materials, equipment, or products as required.
  • All employees are expected to prioritize safety, regardless of role. This includes strict adherence to company-wide safety policies and procedures, proactive promotion of safe practices, and addressing unsafe behaviors or conditions in a constructive and positive manner.
  • Employees expected to conduct themselves with professionalism, courtesy, and cooperation toward colleagues, customers, vendors, and visitors.
  • Full compliance with all Alfa Laval policies and procedures is required to maintain a respectful, safe, and productive work environment.
  • Receiving
    • Unpack deliveries, reject any damaged items, document shortages, and coordinate with vendors to resolve issues.
    • Check item counts, weights, and measurements against accompanying documentation such as bills of lading, invoices, or purchase orders.
    • Ensure Material Test Reports (MTRs) are included when necessary and confirm that MTR numbers align with the received items.
    • Safely move materials using a forklift or hand truck from loading areas to designated storage or work zones.
    • Perform daily checks on the required equipment, including forklifts, cranes, and similar machinery.
    • Troubleshoot discrepancies or problems with received items and escalate to Team Leaders or the Purchasing Department when needed.
    • Route deliveries to the correct warehouse or departmental locations.
    • Keep detailed records of all materials and supplies received
  • Shipping
    • Apply shipping labels to packed cartons and mark crates or containers with identifying and handling instructions using stamps, stencils, or adhesives.
    • Package components according to specified quality standards to minimize damage risks during transit, especially for overseas or ocean-bound shipments.
    • Review outgoing shipments to confirm they meet required specifications and are properly prepared for delivery
  • Warehouse
    • Perform regular counts to validate inventory and support accurate valuation, while identifying and disposing of slow-moving or obsolete items.
    • Assemble custom fan and drive kits per order requirements, ensuring timely availability of components for production.
    • Deliver necessary materials to appropriate workstations or locations efficiently and responsively.
    • Address internal department requests for material delivery promptly to maintain workflow continuity.

Additional Job Duties:

  • Operate commercial delivery vehicles to transport various materials from offsite locations, CDL license preferred.
  • Use large trailers (including 5th wheel configurations) to relocate oversized structures, side frames, and complete or partially assembled heat exchangers within facility grounds.

What you know:

You have High school diploma or GED, required with relevant experience, and:

  • 2+ years of experience in Materials.
  • Basic desk top computer skills required.
  • Basic math skills required including the ability to read a tape measure and micrometer.
  • Prior manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Forklift operation certification preferred.
  • Overhead crane experience preferred.
  • Scissor Lift certification preferred.

Physical & Environmental Factors:

  • Stands or walks 80% of workday.
  • Required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment. 
  • Regularly exert up to 50 lbs of force occasionally: 30 lbs of force frequently
  • Lifting raw materials, assemblies, and equipment using lifts, or manually up to 50 lbs.
  • Must wear PPE: steel toe boots, safety glasses, and ear plugs
  • Exposure to outdoor weather, extreme heat or cold, loud noise, and vibration
  • Work near hazards: moving machinery, vehicles, electrical currents, and chemicals
  • Encounter atmospheric conditions: fumes, dust, gases, odors, and poor ventilation
  • Operate in confined spaces such as narrow aisles or passageway

Physical Requirements:

  • Mobility & Posture: Standing, walking, crouching, stooping, kneeling, and balancing on varied surfaces
  • Manual Dexterity: Reaching, grasping, pushing, pulling, and lifting objects using upper body strength
  • Fine Motor Skills: Repetitive motions involving wrists, hands, and fingers for precision tasks
  • Communication: Clear verbal expressions and active listening to convey and receive detailed instructions
  • Sensory Abilities: Adequate hearing to distinguish sounds and spoken communication in a work environment
