About the job

As an R&D System Engineer at Alfa Laval, you’ll be at the forefront of innovation—designing, optimizing, and developing advanced marine systems.

As our new System Engineer, you will:

  • Drive engineering changes to maintain and improve our existing product portfolio including design changes and component changes.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization, working closely with colleagues, customers, and our Test and Training Center in Aalborg for pilot testing and validation.

  • Conduct research and risk assessments (HAZOP, HAZID, FMEA, DFMEA), document findings, and deliver impactful reports to guide decision-making.

  • Design and develop marine systems and components, including burners, boilers, heat exchangers, and future fuel systems.

  • Develop detailed design documents for both individual parts and complete products, ensuring quality and manufacturability.

  • Utilize models and simulations to validate and optimize your designs, ensuring our solutions are efficient, cost-effective, and innovative.

  • Support internal R&D projects by taking a key role in internal development and design processes, contributing to the successful realization of new marine energy solutions.

Your journey will begin with a focus on maintaining and optimizing our current product portfolio through engineering changes and support, but you’ll expand your role by contributing to exciting R&D projects that shape the future of marine energy and form you into a product specialist.

Who are you

You’re curious, take initiative, and passionate about product development, and you are open to taking on various tasks. You thrive in a collaborative environment and are eager to grow your skills while making a difference.

What you know

We are seeking a candidate that brings:

  • A degree in Mechanical-, Process-, Mechatronic Engineering, or a similar field (5+ years’ experience is a plus).

  • Proven expertise in designing and developing systems and choosing components—ideally within marine applications.

  • Experience with burners, boilers, heat exchangers, or future fuel systems is highly valued.

  • A creative, solution-oriented mindset with a drive to challenge the status quo and explore new possibilities.

  • Strong collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience with models and simulations for design validation and optimization.

  • A goal-oriented, detail-focused approach with a commitment to quality and meeting deadlines.

  • Adaptability, curiosity, and a proactive attitude in a dynamic, innovative environment.
