We’re looking for
Every day, we get opportunities to make a positive impact – on our colleagues, partners, customers, and society. Together, we’re pioneering the solutions of the future and unlocking the full potential of precious resources. Trusted to act on initiative, we challenge conventional thinking to develop world-leading technologies that inspire progress in vital areas, including energy, food, water, and shipping.
As we push forward, the innovative, open spirit that fuels our 140-year-old start-up culture and rapid growth also drives our personal growth. So, as we shape a more resourceful, less wasteful world, we build our careers too.
About the job
This role sits at the intersection of engineering, sales, and product development. As a Sales Engineer, you will be responsible for translating customer needs into technically viable solutions within our marine portfolio, ensuring the right product fit while balancing technical limitations, cost, and performance.
You will work closely with Sales, R&D, Product Management, and Engineering & Supply, playing a key role in complex customer projects—sometimes leading the technical dialogue, sometimes enabling it behind the scenes. This is not a back-office engineering role; you are expected to actively contribute to customer interactions and influence decisions internally.
Key responsibilities:
Lead the technical evaluation of customer requirements and match them with Alfa Laval solutions within the Marine portfolio (e.g., Fresh Water Generators, heat exchangers, E-Power Pack, etc.)
Drive and support complex quotation processes, including calculations, technical specifications, and solution design
Actively participate in customer projects through meetings, presentations, and technical discussions—both remotely and on-site
Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, R&D, Product Management, and Engineering & Supply to define feasible and competitive solutions
Act as a product expert (“product champion”)—owning deep knowledge of capabilities, limitations, and applications
Contribute to product launches and campaigns, including internal training and technical enablement
Use and further develop technical documentation, and internal processes
Challenge and align with internal stakeholders when technical or commercial assumptions need to be validated or adjusted
This position can be based at our Aalborg or Søborg office, and it has an expected travel commitment of approximately 30 – 40 days per year.
Who are you
You are a structured and commercially aware engineer who is comfortable operating outside of a purely technical environment. You communicate clearly, challenge when needed, and are confident engaging with both customers and internal stakeholders. You combine attention to detail with a pragmatic mindset, and you are not afraid to push back when something doesn’t make sense. You thrive in a role where you need to balance technical depth with collaboration, ownership, and influence.
What you know
You bring a solid technical foundation combined with practical experience from the marine industry. You understand how systems work in real environments—not just in theory—and can translate that into customer value.
We expect you to have:
Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar
2–5 years of experience in the marine industry (e.g., sailing engineer, naval architect, or marine equipment supplier)
Strong understanding of vessel engine room systems and their interactions
Experience working with technical solutions, system design, or product application in a customer context
Ability to interpret customer requirements and translate them into technical solutions
Confidence working across functions, especially with Sales and R&D
Fluency in English (written and spoken)
Nice to have:
Experience with thermal systems, heat exchangers, or related technologies
Exposure to complex sales processes or project-based environments
Experience contributing to product development, launches, or technical training
