We’re looking for
Rudeboksvägen, Lund, Sweden, 226 55
Full time
Alfa Laval in Lund is looking for an M.Sc. student for the Master Thesis - CFD simulation of non-Newtonian flows.
Every day, we get opportunities to make a positive impact – on our colleagues, partners, customers and society. Together, we’re pioneering the solutions of the future and unlocking the full potential of precious resources. Trusted to act on initiative, we challenge conventional thinking to develop world-leading technologies that inspire progress in vital areas, including energy, food, water and shipping.
As we push forward, the innovative, open spirit that fuels our 140-year-old start-up culture and rapid growth also drives our personal growth. So, as we shape a more resourceful, less wasteful world, we build our careers too
About the job
Alfa Laval plate heat exchangers (phe) are extensively used in the food and dairy industries. One challenge with phes in these applications is to cope with non-Newtonian fluids such as ketchup, Nutella, mustard and other viscous liquids.
The objective of the study -is to investigate how phes of different shapes perform with different non-Newtonian fluids. The outcome of the thesis study should be a recommendation on when to use which heat exchanger type for which fluid.
The project includes
A small analytical investigation of non-Newtonian fluids for a simple geometry.
cfd-simulate and verify the non-Newtonian model for this simple geometry.
Use existing geometries of Alfa Laval plate heat exchanger channels and simulate the flow.
Analyze the simulation results and compare these for the different channels.
Finally, formulate a recommendation on which channel to use when.
The work will preferably be carried out at Alfa Lava in Lund at the R&D department during the spring semester 2025.
Who you are
We look for an analytical engineering student with an interest in computational fluid dynamics (cfd). It is an advantage if you have taken courses within cfd.
Assessment practicalities
We care about diversity, inclusion, and equity in our recruitment processes. We also believe behavioral traits can provide important insights into a candidate's fit to a role. To help us achieve this, we apply Pymetrics assessments, and upon application you will be invited to play the assessment games
