Alfa Laval in Lund is looking for Master Thesis students focusing on “Sustainable products and Life Cycle Assessment - developing a guideline for Alfa Laval”.
Every day, we get opportunities to make a positive impact – on our colleagues, partners, customers and society. Together, we’re pioneering the solutions of the future and unlocking the full potential of precious resources. Trusted to act on initiative, we challenge conventional thinking to develop world-leading technologies that inspire progress in vital areas, including energy, food, water and shipping.
As we push forward, the innovative, open spirit that fuels our 140-year-old start-up culture and rapid growth also drives our personal growth. So, as we shape a more resourceful, less wasteful world, we build our careers too.
The Master thesis project
Alfa Laval is a global leader in providing technical equipment essential for heating, cooling, separating, and transporting fluid products. Our products are integral in domestic appliances, industrial applications, and offshore settings.
The increasing customer demand for sustainability data, along with growing regulatory requirements, makes Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) an important component for ensuring corporate competitiveness and compliance. To meet these demands, there is a need to develop group-wide guidelines for LCA at Alfa Laval. LCA also enhances the organization’s understanding of its products and can serve as an enabler for circularity and informed choices regarding materials and components.
Scope of the project:
This thesis is intended to complement ongoing work at Alfa Laval and consists mainly of three parts:
A literature review to explore methodologies and standards for calculating climate impact and to compare these methods as well as the drivers behind the increased demand for sustainability data
An empirical study tailored to Alfa Laval’s operations
Recommendations and guidelines for how Alfa Laval should develop and implement life cycle assessments within its organization.
Details and scope will be determined in dialogue between the supervisor, Alfa Laval, and the student(s).
Please note that the thesis project is expected to start in January 2026 and will be carried out on-site in Lund.
Who are you?
We are looking for two curious Master students in Engineering, most probably from Environmental Engineering (Ekosystemteknik), Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Management that are self-going, methodical, outgoing and interested in Sustainable products and LCA. Strong understanding of LCA and general knowledge of sustainability and energy is a pre-requisite.
Assessment practicalities
We care about diversity, inclusion, and equity in our recruitment processes. We also believe behavioral traits can provide important insights into a candidate's fit to a role. To help us achieve this, we apply Pymetrics assessments, and upon application you will be invited to play the assessment games.
