About The Job

We are seeking a highly motivated Fermentation Specialist to join our Food Innovation Centre team at Alfa Laval. This is a unique opportunity to join from the very beginning, as our new Food Innovation Centre is currently being established. In this role, you will help shape how fermentation and beer concentration trials are performed, while supporting both customer collaborations and internal development projects. You will lead and execute trials, analyze results, and work closely with customers, application specialists, and R&D colleagues to turn process challenges into tested and scalable solutions. As the owner of the fermentation and beer concentration test areas, you will also play a key role in building and maintaining a high-performing test environment that enables innovation in food and beverage processing. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct fermentation trials – Plan, set up, and execute aerobic fermentation experiments for internal projects and customer requests.

  • Run beer concentration trials – Plan and perform trials for internal projects and customer requests.

  • Customer collaboration – Engage with customers to understand their needs, provide technical guidance, and present trial results and insights.

  • Trial analysis and reporting – Collect, analyze, and interpret data from trials and prepare clear reports and presentations.

  • Support R&D activities – Collaborate with R&D teams on new product development, process optimization, and innovation initiatives.

  • Maintain documentation – Ensure accurate records of experiments, protocols, and outcomes.

  • Own the test areas – Establish and maintain the fermentation and beer concentration test areas, ensuring a safe, clean, and well-organized environment that supports a seamless customer experience.

  • Coordinate operations – Plan trials, coordinate maintenance activities, and proactively resolve issues that may affect test quality or uptime.

  • Drive process improvement – Identify opportunities to improve fermentation processes, beer concentration, and food safety practices.

  • Provide training and support – Share expertise with internal teams and customers through training and technical guidance on fermentation techniques and best practices.

What You Know

You have solid experience with fermentation and a strong understanding of how biological processes are applied in industrial food production. With a combination of practical industry experience and technical knowledge, you are comfortable working with fermentation processes, maintaining strict food safety standards, and contributing to both operational and development activities.

  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience within fermentation and processes in an industrial setting

  • A degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering, or a related field

  • Solid understanding of food safety systems, including HACCP, GMP, and related protocols

  • Experience contributing to or supporting R&D projects

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate data into practical insights

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of technical reports and presentations

  • Strong communication and customer service abilities, with the ability to collaborate across teams and with customers
