About the job

We are looking for an Electrical Engineer to join our projects team based in Keele or Camberley, UK. As an Electrical/Automation Engineer you will be responsible for electrical-automation system design, documentation for standard solutions and for customer specific solutions predominantly in wastewater treatment. The job responsibilities include bid/quotation support, engineering and design, specifications for procurement, test of engineered solutions, documentation, and technical support throughout the project lifecycle.

Key tasks

  • Handling of the electrical part of our whole portfolio of mid to large size projects at the same time in accordance with time, specification and budget established by the main PM.

  • Specification and procurement/supplier management for control panels and instrumentation for our components, systems, and plants.

  • Management of subcontractors carrying out electrical installation

  • Creating or reviewing wiring diagrams provided by suppliers

  • FAT of control panels and other equipment at supplier premises around the UK

  • Producing any necessary project specific technical documentation, such as control philosophy, equipment schedules, O&M manuals etc as needed

  • Participate in proposal and sales work in collaboration with our sales team

  • Ensure cost optimization on projects by optimizing design, procurement of electrical equipment with support from the project team

  • Support start-up, commissioning and troubleshooting on site or remotely if possible.

  • Any other various electrical engineering duties required to achieve project and department goals

Who are you

  • We are looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer with solid working experience in a similar role. You must have an appreciation of engineering fundamentals, you are able to read and modify electrical schematics and have a good knowledge of general electrical engineering principles.

  • You are autonomous, motivated and agile with a customer focused approach to projects, including an appreciation of time, cost and resource. You must be self-reliant in prioritising, initiating, and completing multiple tasks for multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.  

  • You have fantastic communication skills, able to network and generate internal relationships to ensure customer query fulfilment. You are confident in communicating with customers whether that be in person or remotely. You are commercially aware within a projects environment and can provide concise updates to peers and management. You are structured and organised, with the ability to take initiative and drive tasks through to completion. You must be willing to travel to customer and supplier sites across the UK and Ireland for short duration meetings and activities.

What you know

  • You have an HNC/HND in an electrical engineering discipline, degree preferred, and/or have served significant time in engineering related roles. 

  • You have a solid understanding of relevant UK Standards and WIMES specifications, with an understanding ATEX / DSEAR regulations being beneficial but not mandatory.  

  • You have knowledge of motors, variable frequency drives, pumps, flow meters, sensors, control valves etc.

  • You have a good working knowledge of PLC / HMI / SCADA systems, particularly Siemens, Allan Bradley and B&R, and various communication protocols.

  • A background with some of Alfa Laval’s products would be desirable – particularly in decanter centrifuges, drum thickeners and belt thickeners.
