As a Material Handler you will be responsible for managing inventory and material flow, delivering materials to production teams, processing pick work via scanner, ensuring quality standards, updating system transactions, and stocking production areas.
This position is in Richmond, VA. Your shift schedule will be Monday through Friday, 10:00PM – 6:30AM, overtime as needed including weekends.
Job Description:
• Accurate & Consistent use of Personal Protective Equipment (Safety Glasses, Steel Toe Shoes, Gloves, Uniform others as required by the specific process)
• Receive daily work assignments from the Team Leader / Team Manager and execute material picking, cycle counting, and pre-production with Standard Operating Procedures as a base.
• Assists Team Lead and Team Manager with administrative and operational tasks, including coordination and reporting.
• Report any deviations (Safety, Quality, Parts, Equipment, etc.) to Status Boards immediately and update the Team Leader / Team Manager.
• Performs daily duties as a material handler, ensuring accurate tracking, handling, and distribution of materials to production.
• Cross trains in multiple departments to provide flexible support and enhance operational efficiency.
• Be active and engaged in the Daily Status Board Meetings by explaining the deviations and propose solutions.
• Review & suggest any improvements for the Standard Operating Procedures.
• Look into your own areas for waste (time, motion, transportation, inventory etc.) elimination opportunities and drive KAIZEN improvements.
• Engaged in daily & weekly 5S routines to achieve high 5S Standard and Sustain it.
• Use the downtime efficiently to learn the new processes & run improvements from the status board activities.
• Employees expected to conduct themselves with professionalism, courtesy, and cooperation toward colleagues, customers, vendors, and visitors.
• Safely operate forklifts, cranes, and manlifts to transport material, equipment, or product as required.
• Full compliance with all Alfa Laval policies and procedures is required to maintain a respectful, safe, and productive work environment.
• Perform regular counts to validate inventory and support accurate valuation, while identifying and disposing of slow-moving or obsolete items.
• Deliver necessary materials to appropriate workstations or locations efficiently and responsively.
• Address internal department requests for material delivery promptly to maintain workflow continuity.
• Other duties as assigned.
ORGANIZATIONAL COMPONENTS (level of functional responsibility, relationships, level of direction received, and ability to initiate work):
• Reporting to Team Manager directly.
• According to delegation from TL / TM
• To stop the production process in case of safety / quality / environmental deviations
• To highlight problems and deviations
• To initiate and run problem resolution and improvement activities.
KEY PERFORMANCE MEASURES
• Safe working (Number of minor injuries/accidents)
• 5S Score for the cell or area, team.
• Attendance Performance (Punctuality, good attendance, unscheduled absences, time-off requests)
• Adherence to Alfa Laval Inc Policies & Procedures.
Education, Experience and Certification/Registrations:
• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2+ years of experience in Materials.
• Basic desk top computer skills required.
• Basic math skills required including the ability to read a tape measure.
• Prior manufacturing experience preferred.
• Forklift operation certification preferred.
• Overhead crane experience preferred.

• Stand-up and Sit-down Fork Truck
• Overhead crane, hoists, etc.
• Tape measure, scale, straight edge, hand tools, etc.
• Hand power tools
Physical & Environmental Factors:
• Stands or walks 80% of workday.
• Required to have visual acuity to operate industrial vehicles and/or heavy equipment.
• Be able to lift up to 60 pounds.
• Must wear PPE: steel toe boots, safety glasses, cut-resistant gloves/sleeves
• Environmental Factors (hazardous materials, work location, work surfaces)
Physical Requirements:
• Mobility & Posture: Standing, walking, crouching, stooping, kneeling, and balancing on varied surfaces
• Manual Dexterity: Reaching, grasping, pushing, pulling, and lifting objects using upper body strength
