About the job
We are looking for a curious and technically driven Technical Designer to join our Smart Separator Systems department in Stockholm. In this role, you will primarily work with marine projects, focusing on system engineering and design.
Your work will involve creating complete system solutions: selecting and integrating pumps, valves, instrumentation, and other components, ensuring compliance with marine standards and legislation, and making sure everything fits and functions as one efficient system. You will also contribute with material selection, calculations, and documentation. While mechanical design may be part of the role in some cases, the main focus is on system-level design, component selection, and process understanding. You will collaborate closely with colleagues in R&D, purchasing, and manufacturing, as well as external suppliers.
This is a role where you will develop both breadth and depth – from daily design tasks to supporting larger projects – and where you will grow into taking more responsibility over time, while shaping the next generation of separator systems.
Key responsibilities
Carry out system engineering and design for separator systems, mainly in marine applications.
Select and integrate components such as pumps, valves, and instrumentation according to marine standards.
Work with P&ID development, 2D and 3D CAD models, and PLM systems.
Perform technical calculations, material selections, and verifications.
Prepare technical specifications and documentation.
Collaborate with suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure technical quality and compliance.
Contribute to improving existing solutions and developing new ones.
Who you are
You are a problem-solver with a genuine interest in systems, components, and design engineering. You enjoy taking ownership, seeing how the pieces fit together, and turning requirements into smart technical solutions. You combine curiosity with structure, and you like to both learn and contribute.
We believe you have:
A relevant engineering degree or equivalent background.
Knowledge of process components (e.g., pumps, valves, instrumentation).
Experience with P&ID, 2D CAD and 3D CAD tools, Autodesk is meritorious.
Experience with PLM systems, Teamcenter is meritorious.
Understanding of material selection, different types of steel, etc.
Awareness of marine standards and regulations is meritorious.
Good communication skills in English.
Experience from the marine industry or other process industries is a strong advantage.
What’s in it for you?
We offer a challenging position in an open and friendly environment where we help each other to develop and create value. Your work will have a true impact on Alfa Laval’s future success.
