About the job
Reporting directly to the Sales Manager, the Applications Engineer receives guidance from both the Sales Manager and the Lead Application Engineer and works closely with the Design Engineering team to ensure accurate and effective system designs.

In this role, the Applications Engineer plays a critical part in supporting Kathabar’s sales organization by engineering tailored dehumidification solutions for a wide range of customer applications. This includes developing system configurations, creating performance diagrams, preparing technical documentation, and generating detailed proposals. The Applications Engineer ensures that every solution delivered is technically sound, cost‑effective, and aligned with customer requirements

This is a role based in Buffalo, NY.

As a part of the team, you will:

  • Receive and log incoming requests for pricing and engineering support, ensuring all opportunities are accurately documented and prioritized.

  • Review design criteria, application requirements, and project specifications to determine feasibility and scope for potential system quotes.

  • Develop detailed performance diagrams and system flow representations to illustrate proposed dehumidification solutions.

  • Apply engineering calculations and specialized software tools to design dehumidification systems tailored to customer needs and operating conditions.

  • Collaborate closely with Sales Managers to evaluate installation requirements, space constraints, and project‑specific considerations.

  • Prepare written quotations, equipment descriptions, and other technical documentation that clearly communicate system design and performance expectations.

  • Create and maintain active project opportunities within CRM, ensuring accurate tracking of project status, updates, and customer interactions.

  • Estimate equipment costs for each system design and generate comprehensive proposals that reflect technical requirements and commercial considerations.

  • Enter purchase orders into internal systems for processing, ensuring accuracy and alignment with approved project details.

  • Support Engineering by addressing customer follow‑up questions, clarifying technical details, and ensuring alignment between design intent and customer expectations.

  • Review contract terms and conditions to confirm technical and performance compliance, identifying any discrepancies or required clarifications.

  • Provide support for international projects as needed, adapting designs and documentation to meet regional standards and requirements.

What you know:

You have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and:

  • 2–3 years of application engineering experience, with exposure to mechanical systems, applied engineering principles, or system design.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with engineered equipment and system performance.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

  • Demonstrated experience using CAD software to develop technical drawings and system layouts.

  • Experience working with HVAC equipment—such as chillers, boilers, and air‑handling units—is a strong plus.

You also bring:

  • Strong problem‑solving and analytical reasoning skills, with the ability to break down complex technical challenges.

  • High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in calculations, documentation, and system design.

  • Clear and effective communication skills—listening, verbal, and written—to support collaboration with sales, engineering, and customers.

  • High technical literacy and comfort working with engineering tools, data, and performance modeling.

  • The ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple active projects while maintaining quality and responsiveness.

  • Adaptability and the ability to adjust quickly to changing project needs, customer requirements, or design constraints.

  • Availability to travel domestically and internationally, approximately 20%

We care about diversity, inclusion and equity in our recruitment processes. We also believe behavioral traits can provide important insights into a candidate's fit to a role. To help us achieve this we apply Pymetrics assessments, and upon application you will be invited to play the assessment games.
