Alfa Laval in India is looking for Unit Manager Manufacturing – HSS (High Speed Separator) Factory

Alfa Laval has been present in India since 1937. It is part of the Alfa Laval Group headquartered out of Lund, Sweden. The India Corporate Office is in Pune, Maharashtra.

The factories located in Maharashtra manufacture and supply key components and systems in Separation, Heat Transfer, and Flow technology. It is also a hub for Centrifugal Separators, Decanters, and Flow equipment delivered to the global markets from here.

The company's products and solutions are omnipresent in over 25 multiple Indian industries including food processing, dairy, edible oil processing, sugar production, pharmaceutical & biotechnology, brewery, distillery, starch, pulp and paper, oil & gas, marine and energy. Alfa Laval caters to many national and international clients based across India and neighbouring countries like Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Bangladesh.

Unit Manager will play a critical role in strengthening the factory's capabilities and supporting Alfa Laval India’s ambitious growth goals. The incumbent will be part of the India Operations Leadership Team: Separation Technologies.

Role Description

This main responsibility of this position is to coordinate, synchronize all cells and develop the manufacturing unit. Responsible for securing that the unit meets short, long terms goals and customer expectations. Actively work with operational interfaces, communicate and coordinate.

The Key elements of this role involve:

  • Responsible for the performance and output of the unit.
  • Set and follow up targets for the unit, broken down from factory level.
  • Responsible for to achieve Daily/Weekly/ Monthly production. Maintain agreed takt time.
  • Focus on WIP Monitoring and Control accordingly.
  • Drive the development of people, quality and processes.
  • Capacity Vs Load follow up on monthly basis to smooth run of daily production.
  • Identify the bottlenecks and control efficiently
  • Productivity improvement through various projects.
  • Monitor and control the subcontracting work as per the need.
  • Work with short term/long term planning process in ERP.
  • Responsible for creating a safety culture on shopfloor, safeguarding quality, delivering as per plans and constantly improving capacity & SQDC.
  • Secure ALPS / Lean Six Sigma / 5S/TPM and other Operations initiative in the unit .
  • Quick actions on Red cards generated through ALPS System
  • Secure Standardized work by using SOP’s. Perform SOP audits according to ALPS.
  • Actively participation in PM and IM meeting and also conduct the audit as per ALPS guideline.
  • Owner of Operational plan activities in relevant areas / processes
  • Support for costing update process.
  • Support for Problem Solving & Improvement activities
  • Understand and deal with the real problems of the unit by being present on Gemba.
  • Involve in new product development and give input to EPD (Existing Product Development)
  • Handle repair and maintenance unit .
  • Control on spares and service purchase for repair and maintenance unit.

Expectations & Responsibilities:

  • Production Planning: Develop, implement, and monitor production schedules to meet customer demand and company targets.
  • Operational Efficiency: Analyze production data, optimize workflows, and implement lean manufacturing techniques to maximize productivity and reduce costs.
  • Quality & Safety Control: Ensure all products meet quality standards and that the facility adheres to health and safety regulations.
  • Team Leadership: Hire, train, mentor, and evaluate production employees to maintain high performance and motivation.
  • Resource Management: Manage budgets, approve invoices, and oversee equipment maintenance and procurement of materials.
  • Union Relations: Ongoing relationship management with employee unions to ensure industrial harmony and alignment
  • Communication: Act as a liaison between staff, management, and other departments to ensure smooth operation
  • Align overall targets and KPI’s to department goals and KPI’s.
  • Ensure capacity planning and deliveries according to plan.
  • Develop leadership skills within team and towards stakeholders.
  • Ensure a good level of cooperation between operators and white collars.
  • Facilitate and initiate improvement activities and safeguard the quality and necessary documentation
  • Secure all reporting is done on time and with quality including progress of manufacturing orders.
  • Maintaining and development of ESI for own team.
  • Secure feasible and standard communication plan within the team.
  • Support for development of different tools, fixtures and new machinery to increase productivity
  • Analyze process deviations and facilitate root cause analysis and solutions with the help of manufacturing team and support funtions.
  • Safeguard that necessary competence is available in all area.
  • Constant awareness about future bottlenecks minimum N3M and overview of long term N12M.
  • Responsible for Maintenance of relevant basic data parameters and forecast for production plan.
  • Securing highest level of safety in all cells and in the shop in general
  • Drive the role as pillar head of 5S and SOP.
  • Ensure a good level of cooperation between operators and white-collar team.
  • Facilitate constructive dialogue with union leaders and members
  • Secure all reporting is done on time and with quality including progress of manufacturing orders,
  • Seamless synchronization of flows securing 100% DOT from all cell's
  • Secure all basic files are kept update to run costing update process whenever needed
  • Responsible to monitor production planning, CNC Cell, Bowl disc cell and assembly cell of HSS Factory.
  • Responsible for repair and maintenance of HSS unit including spares and service purchase.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • BE Mechanical or Production or equivalent experience 
  • Leadership and management skills
  • 12 - 15 years of experience from production/manufacturing company. Atleast 10 yrs of managerial experience.
  • Experience of improvement tools, e g 5S, Lean Six Sigma, Kaizen, PRP etc.
  • Project work experience
  • Experience of managing and maintaining effective union relations
