Project Execution Engineer
Join Alfa Laval, a global leader in heat transfer, separation, and fluid handling solutions. We’re looking for a Project Execution Engineer who thrives on building relationships, solving complex challenges, and driving growth for our clients.
About the job
Make your mark delivering complex, end‑to‑end projects—from contract award through commissioning and handover. You’ll lead cross‑functional teams, own the plan, and keep scope, schedule, cost, and quality tightly under control—while creating a stand‑out customer experience. Based in Hamilton, New Zealand.
What you’ll do
- Own end‑to‑end delivery: Build and execute project plans, track performance/costs, and drive on‑time, on‑budget, to‑spec outcomes.
- Commissioning & handover: Coordinate site works, start‑up and commissioning with internal/external service engineers; oversee SATs, punch‑lists, and handover packs.
- Technical leadership: Read and act on P&IDs, PFDs, GA drawings, specs and datasheets; review vendor offers; support design reviews/HAZOPs; ensure documentation (IOMs, spare parts lists) is complete and accurate.
- Standards & QHSE: Ensure compliance with New Zealand and international standards (e.g., AS, ASME, DIN EN, IEC, ISO) and embed QHSE across all activities.
- Risk & change control: Anticipate issues, maintain RAID logs, manage variations and claims, and escalate early to protect cost/schedule.
- Stakeholder management: Align manufacturing, engineering, sales, order handling, finance, suppliers, and contractors to hit milestones—and keep customers informed with crisp, proactive communication.
- Warranty / DLP support: Lead trouble‑shooting and resolution during the defects liability period.
What you’ll bring
- Degree in Mechanical/Process/Chemical/Electrical/Mechatronics Engineering (or similar).
- 3+ years’ experience delivering engineered equipment or process systems projects, including site commissioning/start‑up.
- Confident with P&IDs/PFDs, vendor FAT/SAT, and change/variation control.
- Working knowledge of AS/ASME/IEC/ISO and QHSE practices on industrial sites.
- Strong stakeholder skills with contractors/subcontractors and customers.
- A valid driver’s licence and ability to travel to customer sites across NZ. Travel to Australia may also be required.
- Nice to have: HAZOP participation, ERP exposure for cost tracking, experience with completions/commissioning management systems.
What’s on offer
- Impactful projects across energy, water, food & beverage, and industrial process environments.
- Growth & development with technical mentors and access to global know‑how.
- Flexibility & wellbeing: hybrid options, EAP, and practical leave benefits
- Recognition: competitive package with performance bonus potential.
