About the job

Lead Product Designer

  • Søborg
  • Full time

Every day, we get opportunities to make a positive impact – on our colleagues, partners, customers, and society. Together, we’re pioneering the solutions of the future and unlocking the full potential of precious resources. Trusted to act on initiative, we challenge conventional thinking to develop world leading technologies that inspire progress in vital areas, including energy, food, water and shipping.

As we push forward, the innovative, open spirit that fuels our 140-year-old start-up culture and rapid growth also drives our personal growth. So, as we shape a more resourceful, less wasteful world, we build careers too.

About the job

As a Lead Product Designer, you will drive complex, high-impact design initiatives from discovery to delivery, within IoT and automation projects. You are a strategic thinker, an effective communicator, and a collaborative partner who champions user needs while aligning with business objectives. In this role, you'll mentor others, influence our design culture, and play a key part in shaping both the user experience and our design practices.

You’ll have the opportunity to blend visionary thinking with hands-on design leadership, working closely with the Design Manager to define and execute the design strategy for our department. Together, you’ll establish the processes needed to realize our vision: to create a world-class, intuitive user experience for Alfa Laval products, driven by continuous user feedback and insights.

This role will be located in Søborg, Denmark with 10-20 anticipated travel days.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Owns and leads the design process end-to-end for IoT and automation products - from concept through final implementation.

  • Involve end users early and often to understand their needs, validate assumptions, and improve usability.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with developers, product managers, and engineers to embed UX principles in the product development process.

  • Drive strategic design initiatives with measurable impact.

  • Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity visual designs that ensure intuitive and seamless user experiences.

  • Continuously gather and integrate user feedback to refine designs through iterative testing and validation.

  • Stay up to date with trends and emerging technologies relevant to IoT, automation, and user experience design.

  • Execute and guide core UX activities including user analysis, benchmarking, usability testing, function and task analysis, and design verification.

  • Provide design leadership on projects - setting direction, facilitating workshops, and aligning stakeholders.

  • Mentor and support junior designers, offering guidance, feedback, and skill development.

Your skills and what you know

  • You have a bachelor´s or master´s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field combined with 7+ years of experience in product design

  • Advanced proficiency with design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Adobe CC, Axure)

  • Experience in industrial grade products and platforms

  • Previous leadership experience in similar roles (because you will elevate the role of design across the organization (AD & across AL BUs)

  • Deep understanding of UX strategy, interaction design, usability testing, and accessibility standards

  • Fluency in English both written and spoken are required; fluency in any other Nordic languages is an advantage

  • Familiarity with IoT/automation contexts, including technical constraints and opportunities

Who you are

You are a person that can easily build trust with diverse stakeholders and technical environments. You enjoy driving alignment across teams due to your strong verbal and written. You have a proven ability to balance user needs, technical constraints, and business goals. You are comfortable leading through ambiguity and shaping product direction through design.

What’s in it for you

We offer a challenging position in an open and friendly environment where we help each other to develop and create value. Your work will have a true impact on Alfa Laval’s future success.

We also provide a competitive salary, great benefits, and a highly flexible work environment built on mutual trust and accountability.
