The Role
We are seeking a Product & Application Engineer who will serve as the technical backbone of the business, providing deep application expertise and engineering leadership across the sales and project lifecycle.
This role is ideal for a candidate who is eager to learn, technically curious, and demonstrates a strong can-do attitude, someone who approaches complex challenges with ownership, perseverance, and a solution-oriented mindset rather than constraints.
The position is based in Pune, India, supporting customers and internal teams across MEA and other global regions, with flexibility to work across multiple time zones.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Application Engineering
• Design, size, and optimize heat exchangers (Compact plate heat exchangers, Shell & Tube, WHR solutions) for thermal process applications.
• Perform detailed thermal and hydraulic calculations, feasibility studies, and techno-commercial evaluations.
• Translate customer process requirements into robust, reliable, and optimized heat exchanger solutions.
• Support complex applications such as refining, petrochemicals, oil & gas, power, and energy-intensive process industries.
Sales & Customer Support
• Act as a key technical partner to Sales teams, supporting opportunity development, bid clarification, and technical negotiations.
• Participate in customer meetings, technical presentations, and design discussions, both virtual and in-person.
• Develop customized value propositions focusing on performance, reliability, CAPEX/OPEX optimization, and lifecycle benefits.
Project & Margin Ownership
• Coordinate closely with Project Management, Order Handling, and Operations teams from order intake through execution.
• Ensure design compliance, risk mitigation, and margin protection, proactively addressing technical deviations or scope changes.
• Take ownership in preventing margin erosion through sound engineering decisions.
Knowledge Sharing & Training
• Act as a product and application trainer, delivering structured training programs for internal teams, partners, and customers.
• Serve as a visible technical expert, promoting Alfa Laval solutions through technical forums, webinars, and customer engagements.
Digital & Global Collaboration
• Leverage digital tools for remote collaboration, customer support, and technical reviews.
• Work effectively across global time zones, supporting Middle East & East Africa stakeholders as required.
Your Profile
Technical Competence
• Strong understanding of thermal processes, heat transfer, and industrial heat exchanger design.
• Hands-on experience with process design, application engineering, and proposal engineering in thermal industries.
• Ability to interpret process datasheets, technical drawings, layouts and customer specifications.
Communication & Customer Orientation
• Clear, structured, and confident communicator, both written and verbal.
• Customer-focused mindset with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts.
• Comfortable engaging with customers, EPC’s, End-users, and internal stakeholders.
Collaboration & Ownership
• Proactive, solution-oriented, and accountable for technical outcomes.
• Comfortable working in matrix organizations and fast-paced project environments.
Qualifications & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or chemical engineering (master’s degree is an advantage).
• Relevant experience in heat exchangers, thermal equipment, or process industries.
• Experience supporting international customers or regions is a strong plus.
Location & Working Model
• Location: Pune, India
• Working Model: In office/ Hybrid ICC, Pune, with flexibility to support global customers across time zones.
