About the job

As an integral member of our team, you will play a pivotal role supporting customers with technical operational issues by executing troubleshooting and field service requests received through the International Marine Service Desk. You will have the opportunity to fully understand the marine customers’ processes and needs and be able to match and motivate the customer to choose Alfa Laval products, applications and service offerings, contributing to the overall success and growth of our organization. Currently, this is a Remote opportunity located in Houston - Greenspoint, TX.

As a part of the team, you will:

  • Execute international and local field service within HGS’s 360 service portfolio that are received through the International Marine Service Desk.
  • Perform troubleshooting with full autonomy on board of vessels in the requested port, and if needed, sail with a vessel until the problem is solved (e.g. for on-the-job training on niche products both for customers and service engineers).
  • Provide qualified service on customers’ boilers, burners, control systems and matching equipment.
  • Have a good understanding of PLC and Control systems, as well as operation and maintenance of boilers, burners, equipment and control systems.
  • Execute Performance Audits.
  • Change components, mount new burners and control systems, upgrade equipment and control systems, perform re-commissioning, perform safety checks and combustion adjustments, and advice and coach customers and crew in product usage.
  • Travel extensively to execute marine service jobs, participate in training, team meetings etc., primarily in the own region -Americas (and in EMEA or Asia) but also globally when needed.
  • Work weekdays and weekends on a rolling schedule, and when needed outside normal working hours.
  • Produce service reports and document performed field service as per guidelines.
  • Diagnose, solve and report solutions and improvements on board of vessels to definitively solve the customer’s problem even when third party equipment or installations are involved.
  • Consult Global Technical Specialists before, during and after the field service (if needed).
  • Work together with other International Marine Service team members as a team, and act as a technical support backup to Global Technical Specialists and Global Coordinators if so required.
  • Get central help proactively and use the ISE network and then report the findings to keep colleagues informed.
  • Pick up and bring bookings, VISAs, permits, spare parts, equipment etc. needed to perform the field service.
  • Build relations with customers and crew.
  • Review SOPs and assist in creating new SOPs.
  • Full understand the marine customers’ processes and needs and be able to match and motivate the customer to choose Alfa Laval products, applications and service offerings.

What you know:

You have a high school diploma or higher, bachelor’s degree or similar with relevant experience in marine engineering a plus, and:

  • 5+ years field service experience on board vessels.
  • Fluent English, verbal and written.
  • Able to read & interpret electrical and P & I drawings.
  • Good cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Experience from working in an international context and across borders with colleagues and customers from other cultures.
  • Good reporting skills.
  • Experience of working in CRM systems and planning tools.
  • Electrical, electronics, automation & instrumentation knowledge.
