About the job
As our new Manager for Automation Engineering, you will lead a globally distributed team responsible for Hardware and Software Engineering on customer projects in Service and Capital Sales. Your team will be primarily distributed between our sites in Aalborg, Denmark and China.
In this role, you will lead a team leader at our Chinese site as part of a layered leadership structure and are expected to champion a strong culture of safety, care, and accountability throughout the organization. Your primary mission is to ensure efficient, compliant, and high-quality project engineering delivery while driving continuous improvement & process governance.
In this role, you will serve as a people manager and will not be hands-on engineering yourself. Moreover, you and your team will be a part of bringing new products and control philosophies to market in close collaboration with our R&D, Sales & Project Management departments, as well as engineering off-standard solutions according to customer demand, when required.
Some of your key responsibilities include:
Lead, develop, and inspire a global Automation Engineering team, setting a high-performance standard while fostering a healthy, safe, and inclusive work environment. You will promote professional growth, open dialogue, and a culture of trust and respect as key enablers of sustained excellence.
Ensure consistent, professional engineering across all sites, aligning with technical scope, class compliance, timelines, and quality standards.
Act as the functional process owner for Automation Engineering in customer project execution, setting and governing ways of working, and process adherence.
Ensure required competence level is kept within the full product portfolio as well as optimal use of the main Automation tools, E-plan & Siemens TIA portal, including introduction of new features and tools to the team.
Responsible for resource planning & staffing of the area.
Create structure where it is missing and ensure overview where it doesn’t already exist.
Engage in proactive risk reviews to support the right quality & reliability in the engineered solutions while keeping budget for allocated hours.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in marine engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
Proven leadership experience managing global or multi-site Engineering teams.
Strong understanding of control systems, resource planning, and stakeholder management.
Familiarity with compliance-driven environments and structured process ownership.
Demonstrated ability to lead change and implement structured ways of working.
Preferred Qualifications:
Solid background in engineering, ideally within engineering-intensive and project-based industries.
Experience from the marine industry.
Experience with digital project-, product- and engineering tools such as E-plan, Siemens TIA, as well as ERP- and PLM systems.
As part of a global organization, speaking and writing English is a prerequisite.
The position requires travel to China for approximately 14 days at a time, two to four times per year.
