About the job
Reporting to the Electrical Engineering Manager, the Automation Engineer Intern supports the Engineering & Supply Food Systems (FOS) group and will gain hands‑on experience across multiple engineering disciplines, including Electrical, Automation, Mechanical, and Process.
This internship offers the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge, develop leadership skills, and contribute to meaningful improvement initiatives using Lean Six Sigma DMAIC methodology.
This role is based in Buffalo, NY.
As a part of the team, you will:
Assist, organize, and facilitate improvement initiatives within the Alfa Laval C2 global continuous improvement system.
Learn about Alfa Laval products, supply chains, and engineering disciplines, gaining exposure to real‑world challenges and cross‑functional collaboration.
Document meeting minutes, identify deliverables and deadlines, follow up with team members, and help drive small to medium initiatives to completion.
Network and collaborate with engineers across disciplines, supporting their improvement activities and learning from experienced professionals.
File completed initiatives and documentation in the C2 global continuous improvement system to support organizational learning and standardization.
Support Automation, Electrical, Mechanical, and Process Engineering teams with daily tasks under the guidance of skilled E&S FOS team members.
What You Know
You are a college student pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, and you bring:
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency with PC tools, including presentations, Excel, Adobe Connect, and Teams
Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar software (a plus)
Ability to collaborate effectively with cross‑disciplinary engineering teams
Interest in automation, process improvement, and multidisciplinary engineering work
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to learn new tools, systems, and methodologies
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple short‑term tasks in a fast‑paced environment
Capability to work independently while seeking guidance when needed
Ability to synthesize technical information from multiple sources
Strong technical problem‑solving skills
Positive, customer‑focused mindset
